Geometric signatures of tissue surface tension in a three-dimensional model of confluent tissue

چکیده

In dense biological tissues, cell types performing different roles remain segregated by maintaining sharp interfaces. To better understand the mechanisms for such compartmentalization, we study effect of an imposed heterotypic tension at interface between two distinct in a fully 3D Voronoi model confluent tissues. We find that cells rapidly sort and self-organize to generate tissue-scale types, adjacent this exhibit signature geometric features including nematic-like ordering, bimodal facet areas, registration, or alignment, centers on either side two-tissue interface. The magnitude these scales directly with tension, suggesting biologists can estimate tissue surface simply segmenting tissue. uncover underlying physical driving features, develop minimal, ordered models using lattices identify energetic competition bulk shapes area. When area dominates, changes neighbor topology are costly occur less frequently, which generates observed features.

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

Confluent and non-confluent phases in a model of cell tissue

The Voronoi-based cellular model is highly successful in describing the motion of two-dimensional confluent cell tissues. In this model, the energy of each cell is determined solely by its geometric shape and size, and the interaction between adjacent cells is a byproduct of this additive energy. We generalize this model so as to allow zero or partial contact between cells in an open system. We...

a comparative study of the theme of "marriage" in three victorian novelists: charles dickens, george eliot and thomas hardy

Oxygen tension and formation of cervical-like tissue in two-dimensional and three-dimensional culture.

Cervical dysfunction contributes to a significant number of preterm births and is a common cause of morbidity and mortality in newborn infants. Cervical dysfunction is related to weakened load bearing properties of the collagen-rich cervical stroma. However, the mechanisms responsible for cervical collagen changes during pregnancy are not well defined. It is known that blood flow and oxygen ten...
